Who Are Those Dogs in … The K9 Advantix/Advantage Commercials?

One of my favorite TV commercials using animals is the K9 Advantix commercials with the little singing puppy. There’s one where he’s written to thank his parents for the package with the K9 Advantix in it. (Which stopped all the biting, because those “fleas, ticks, mosquitoes really bother.”) In fact, the commercial is titled “Camp” and you can watch it on the K9 Advantix site.) They have a new commercial with the little pup singing another song: There ain’t no bugs on me There ain’t no bugs on me. There may be bugs on some of you mugs, But there … Continue reading

New Disney World Attraction: The Legend of Captain Jack Sparrow

The cycle is complete: “Pirates of the Caribbean” was a movie based on a classic Disney World ride.  Now there’s a new Disney World attraction based on the movie that was based on the ride.  The Legend of Captain Jack Sparrow is a new immersive walk-through at Disney World that opened on December 6.  The Disney Parks released a behind-the-scenes video with the Imagineers detailing the attraction, and the famous talent that helped bring it to life. The centerpiece of the attraction is the virtual image projected onto the deck of a pirate’s ship: that of Captain Jack Sparrow.  But … Continue reading

Organizing The Linen Closet

When I bought my house one thing I really liked was the huge linen closet. It’s so big that my daughter calls it the gateway to Narnia. This closet is eight feet long and about two feet deep. I thought I had died and gone to Heaven. No more cramming things in there to make them fit, I couldn’t wait to fill up my new linen closet. Fast forward three years and this poor linen closet looks like a bag lady’s shopping cart exploded in it. Towels are tumbling everywhere, sheets are in one place, pillowcases in another, there’s no … Continue reading

Book Review The Last Olympian (Percy Jackson and the Olympians series, Book 5)

The Last Olympian is the long-awaited fifth and final volume in the Percy Jackson and the Olympians series by Rick Riordan. The series focuses on “half-blood” children of one mortal parent and one Greek god, who are targeted by monsters from Greek mythology which they must fight in order to save themselves and, occasionally, Western civilization. (Kids whose makeup includes dyslexia and/or attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder will be pleased to learn that, in Riordan’s world, these are hallmarks by which one may recognize a demigod or hero.) The series begins with The Lightning Thief, which was reviewed by our blogger Lauri, … Continue reading

Christian Book Distributor’s Bargain Bonanza

*sigh* All the money I’m saving by reading MaryAnn’s frugal blogs is being spent on deals! I’m almost ready to quit saving money on them. Not! I have this fantasy where one year I’ll spend nothing that isn’t absolutely necessary. Fortunately, I always wake up! I ordered today from Christian Book Distributors. They’re having a Bargain Bonanza. Here’s what was in my basket: Lucy’s Christmas Box – I loved the Chronicles of Narnia. Yeah, it was Disney-fied and Aslan was wimped down, but for the most part, it kept the magic of the original C.S. Lewis classic. We’ve collected and … Continue reading
