Cracking Down On Baggy Pants

In previous blogs I’ve made fun of the baggy pants trend. Not that I find humor in seeing a stranger’s underwear, but in some cases baggy pants offenders learn their lessons the hard way and it’s hard not to crack smile. Okay, puns aside. The issue of baggy pants is serious business in places like Atlanta, Georgia where lawmakers want to put an end to the fashion trend made popular by teens. If city leaders get their way, baggy pants that reveal boxer shorts or thongs would be illegal under a proposed amendment to Atlanta’s indecency laws. The amendment states … Continue reading

Job Fairs: Appropriate Attire for Teens

I was in the mall the other day while a summer job fair for teens was being held. To say that I was shocked by the way some of these teens presented themselves to future employers would be an understatement. From well-worn flip-flops to boys with baggy pants and girls with jeans so low I could see their panties, let me tell you I saw it all (and a good bit of it I wished I had not seen). In my day, I would not have been allowed to wear some of the clothes that youths today wear. I keep … Continue reading

Padded Bras For 6-Year Olds

So bras aren’t just for those who are actually developing but a necessity to start kindergarten. It’s crazy. What is even crazier is that parents actually buy them for their daughters. Bratz padded bras are currently being sold in Australia and it’s only a matter of time before they make their way to the United States. In a Herald Sun article Target, a separate entity from the US Target, claimed that they sell the padded bras because they support … Continue reading

The Prevalence And Effects of Sex In The Media

I recently came across these facts taken from a fact sheet titled “Marketing Sex to Children.” I guess I must be naive but I was appalled at how much sex children and teenagers are exposed to in the media. It is no wonder that so many teens are having sex themselves. They are practically bombarded with the message that it is not only fun but also appropriate. So how much sex are teens actually being exposed to in the media? “In 2003, 83% of the episodes of the top 20 shows among teen viewers contained some sexual content, including 20% … Continue reading
