A Much Needed Family Outing

Family outings are few and far between in my family.  Even though we try to do things together as a family more often, it always seems like there is something more important and dire that needs to be done instead.  As our small family struggles to find the balance between job work, dissertation  work, house work, and play, we are often too exhausted to make our much needed family outings happen.  However, the opportunity for a family outing arose rather spontaneously and we jumped at the chance to get out of the house and do something fun with our children.

Our son had been talking for some time about wanting to take daddy to see the “stars in the sky theater.”   This “sky theater” is actually called the “star theater” and is part of our local science center’s exhibits.  The last time we had gone to the science center the “friends” we had gone with were too scared to be in the dark theater so we skipped it much to my son’s chagrin.   Since daddy had never accompanied us to the science center, we felt it was high time he joined us for some science fun.

We arrived at the science center only a few hours before closing (normally I try to go in the morning when it opens).  We were pleasantly surprised to find that there was plenty of parking and hardly anyone inside.  After checking in, we went to the new Mars exhibit.  Upon entering we were asked to vote whether or not we would choose to go to Mars if we had the chance.  My husband who is very much enthralled with the idea of space traveled answered yes taking our daughter with him.  I on the other hand have no desire to go to Mars or travel in space so I took our indecisive son through the “vote no” entrance gate…
