Ear Stapling: A Weight Loss Solution? - Blog Entry

I had never heard of such a thing! Is this more effective than just pinching the pressure point, I wonder? Sounds like it could be effective for people who gain weight because of cravings. I bet people who are emotional eaters would be sorely disappointed with the results though.

The One-Bite Rule For Picky Eaters - Blog Entry

26 Jan 2007 11:57 AM

I don't have any picky eaters, so I can't say how this would work for them. The rule in our house is that you can't say you don't like something if you haven't tried it (or even tried it recently, or this version of it). And you can't get seconds on one item if you haven't eaten a serving of each item. This means that my son Toby has to eat at least a little meat (even though he doesn't really like it) if he wants to get seconds on cauliflower. :-)

My children love to read, so this website boggles their mind. "I get to read, and they give me stuff for doing it!!?" :-) It's a great way to encourage reading comprehension. My children have earned games and candy bar coupons from Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory.

Looking for My Waist... and my sanity - Blog Entry

I can sympathize with wanting to get out and exercise and not being able to. A few weeks back, I was in the same boat- wanting to get to the gym and get back to my pre-pregnancy fitness level, but recovering from an emergency appendectomy instead! Just remember, letting your body heal is a POSITIVE thing- don't take it too quickly and hurt yourself more. You can keep in the habit of exercising by using this time to work on arm and ab strength, you know. But what I really need to know is: Andrea, did you get rid of those dangerous shoes? :-)

Becoming a Healthier Mom - Blog Entry

I'm a size 20, and I go swimming with my children. Yes, I am always tempted to hide in embarrassment. Two things I think of help me get out there and have fun. First, I remember I am there to enjoy playing with my children, not to impress anybody. So I quit being selfish and start splashing. :-) Second, I assume that other women are doing the same thing I used to do- surreptitiously checking to see if they are the fattest person there. Now when I check to see if I am the largest and I am, I think "Good! I just made every woman here feel a whole lot better about herself!"

Life is too short, go ahead and make a big splash!

If You Really Want My Opinion, Perhaps You Should Not Homeschool - Blog Entry

16 Jan 2007 08:27 PM

Quite thought provoking. It is amazing how the homeschool world has changed since my parent started teaching me at home, those many years ago. It used to be the difficulty was in finding ANY resources or advice- now it is in slogging through the plethora of curricula and knowing when to say "enough!". I wonder what the face of homeschooling will be in another generation.

Preparing for a Trip to the Emergency Room - Blog Entry

I am doing much better, and grateful for the help from friends! Even if I had thought of it, I wouldn't have had a very big supply- even with the snazzy electric pumps at the hospital I can't pump very much. I don't know how other mamas do it!

Congratulations on your little one to come, Eliza! Did you have a bad experience last time that is making you nervous? I hope this birth turns out beautifully for you!

New Homeschool Blogger Introduction - Blog Entry

Hi, Andrea! I'm a homeschool mama to 6 children. I just discovered these blogs recently and have enjoyed reading them. I look forward to your additions. Will you be posting about interior decorating or painting sometimes, too?

The Cost of Homeschooling - Blog Entry

30 Nov 2006 04:26 PM

We budget $50 a month for homeschooling expenses for our 5 children, so it looks like we're in the same ballpark. I have to know though- are you including the lesson expenses in your total? Classes for ballet, fencing, piano, swimming, etc. run around 10 bucks per week per child around here. I couldn't possibly afford 2 per week per child on our budget! Not that I want to do that anyway. Many outside activities make life way too hectic. I prefer the slow lane. :-)

Oh, and pencils do the same in our house. And a pencil with a usable eraser is even more rare!
