I think a teacher will go in and out of the phases you mentioned. From my own experiences, I would say that the better teachers are the ones who were excited work with the kids on a daily basis. My older step-sister had been a basketball star who went to college on a scholarship. She was 10 years older than me and about 8 inches taller. Still my phys ed teacher insisted on comparing us and would not accept that I was in no way a natural athlete. She thought I was being purposeful about not being able to get a the basketball near the hoop when in fact, I was the family nerd. Because she expected more from me she graded me harder meaning while I got A's in all my classes, phys ed grades kept me off the honor roll. I don't feel however that schools should be at the mercy of homeschoolers because parents need to make a decision and stick to it. As you know, I don't think homeschooler should have any more mandatory laws than we already have... we already know what too many regulations has done to public schools. I did have a consecutive teacher in elementary school, and she made it a point that while she was familiar with the kids to give the a fresh start at the beginning of the school year. I had an older brother who was an A student but dropped out six months before graduation because he was sick of being treated like a child.
