Invalid Reasons to Homeschool: A Rebuttal to a Public Educators Opinion - Blog Entry

Very true Adam, and I use a co-op type program to homeschool my kids. They attend two days a week and do the rest of their work at home. Still, while it is A Way to homeschool, it is hardly the only way.

Unschooling, Homeschooling, Classroom: Choose the Method that Meets the Needs of the Child - Blog Entry

Very well written.

Per the comment of getting input from a four-yea-old. I think middle school is a better place to get a child's opinion. Still you must remember that middle school and highschool are the years when a child does the most damage to him or herself. Still it might not hurt to put a child who wants to be in school in school. If it was meant to be... fine. If not, he or she will come running back asking to homeschool!

OOOOH Girl!

I was with you until point three! I don't disagree with your arguments, to a certain degree, but just want to clarify a few things that are hard to see from that side of the fence.

I started writing a comment, but it turned into a blog post, so I will post a rebuttal on the homeschooling blog.

I do know that you respect and even admire homeschooling just as much as I admire anyone who can teach and take care of a room full of children. So, Come visit my post which should be live soon... I would love for you to add any comments.

These certainly are valid reasons to homeschool. There are of course others... probably too many to mention. They might include religious, distance issues like in Alaska and Australia, or just providing a relaxed childhood.

"Do You Have to be a Teacher..." - Blog Entry

I believe a teacher has to be a special person who loves sharing knowledge... I know many people who are teachers by heart, just as you mentioned... preachers, leaders, even corporate executives. As a homeschooling mom, I would have to say that I am not doing a teachers job, but a parents duty.

Connecticut Schools Close for Heat - Blog Entry

Why when I was a child in NY we walked to school in 6 feet of show, uphill... in bare feet... yeah. That's what we did. Seriously though, we have no AC when I was in school, we just grinned and bore it... then we went home to hot houses and fought for the prime spot in front of the fan. HOWEVER, here in GA where I now live children DIE regularly due to heat stroke... especially during sports practice. I am not sure how they should handle the issue, but sending kids to sports practice is a bad idea.
