The show needs to set legal parameters that have to be met in order to keep the house. My parents weren't above spanking, but only for a good reason like danger to yourself or another or lying. (My mom was a southerner though) Raising kids in the south. Probably spanked each child 4 times in their lives, but not above it. Have also swatted on but or hand to stop misbehavior mid act... still rare. But... my kids have always responded well to verbal cues and reason.
