When he was younger, I would never chatise him for tattling since he was just telling the truth as he saw it. Now I just tell him he needs to work these things out with the other kids. He really gets upset when he sees kids getting what they want by not following rules, especially when he would never consider breaking rules. We are working on getting him to question and bend rules. It's Back! 50% off Bookcases at Staples - Blog Entry26 Mar 2007 04:32 PM OOOH I think I will get some. I bought some a few years ago, and have maxed them out. My old ones are still in great shape. Would You Put Your Child in a Beauty Pageant? - Blog Entry26 Mar 2007 10:24 AM My daughter competes in pageants. Actually she competes in one pageant. Last year she did the local pageant, and then got invited to nationals. That is more than enough for one year. (some girls do at least 1 a month... that worries me) Reasons... 1. she wanted to: I made her wait until I thought she was old enough to understand what she was asking for. 2. we homeschool: more interaction with children her age 3: She wants to do it again: She came home from the last pageant and started practicing for the next. Our experiences were good, though we witnessed childen having bad experiences. Just like education, however, I must say that the experience is only as good as the parental guidance and preparation. Too little or too much of anything good thing is bad. Please, Don't Call Me "Mrs." - Blog Entry26 Mar 2007 04:26 AM Ma'am works just fine! Still, it makes me cringe... I have learned to even the playing field by calling everyone Miss, Ms, or Mr. Even kids. Remeber, If you've made a difference with one child, you have changed the world. HSLDA: The Ugly - Blog Entry16 Mar 2007 07:15 AM a shy writer sent me the following message that I feel needs stating (this is an excerpt): "I wanted to write to you about your HSLDA "the ugly" post because you listed something as being part of "the ugly" when really it should belong in a category of it's own "the unfortunate but understandable." ... If HSLDA members (husband and wife) go through a divorce, as attorneys, HSLDA would obligated ethically to represent both parents interests. This would be literally impossible in a divorce situation, therefore it would be completely unethical for HSLDA to represent either party (this same principal applies in other situations as well, i.e. husband and wife file for bankruptcy protection, then months later go through a divorce. If the bankruptcy protection needs altered, both husband and wife would have to find new attorneys). It seems at conflict to consider it "ugly" that HSDLA would want to abide by the code of ethics. Second, custody battles are expensive. " I want to thank the writer for this comment, but just add that I have read many comments from people who felt abandoned by HSLDA when they needed them most. Revisiting Circumcision - Blog Entry12 Mar 2007 05:24 AM As someone who chose not too, both my gyn and my pediatrician felt that it was completely unnecessary. They were both against giving a child pain. Since they knew dad could show a son how to clean himself properly, they were especially against it. It didn't hurt that the pediatrician was married to a foreigner like I was, and knew that It was not a problem for people with good hygiene.
