I have seen some really dark ones but they were really really dark. I did do a search and found talk of a line called Ebon-aide, but they seem to have not made it in retail and have been sent to dollar stores.. but there won't be an eyepatch. Examining My Own Attitudes Toward Race - Blog Entry23 Feb 2007 09:38 PM I have friends who think it is wrong to discuss race (they are white). They say Jesus loved everybody and so do I. Eventually however, sand will get in the Ostriches eyes, and he has to pull his head out of the ground. The more you talk about it, the easier it will become. Just make sure you add lots of complimenting adjectives. Would They Have Done That To Me? - Blog Entry23 Feb 2007 09:35 PM I disagree with the speaker. I have tons of relatives who have warned their children against discrimination. I did not. The difference I see in the kids is confidence. The kids would walk into stores and other venues looking for someone to treat them badly. My kids on the other hand would expect to be treated well. When mistreatment happened, they were oblivious to it. Now that my kids are pre-teens, they have naturally started talking about skin color. In fact my son questioned me once as to why we did not have more friends that look like us (We have friends of all races). As the discussions got difficult, and they started picking up on subtleties themselves we went to the MLK center in Atlanta to discover civil rights history. PS. I think you did fine...just don't go faster than she can handle. Too Much Information? - Blog Entry23 Feb 2007 10:26 AM Yeah... I grew up not too far from you and distinctly remember drawing my mom a stick figure diagram in grade two. She was most appalled because it was correct. I learned it from other kids, and encylopedias. Our kids don't need sex ed, they need moral counseling. Too Much Information? - Blog Entry23 Feb 2007 07:18 AM For both our church, and the church school we use for homeschooling, 6th grade is the when they will start talking to kids about social problems of all kind to instill the Church view instead of the world view... Still, when the word abortion rolled of my sons tongue I nearly crashed the car. Back in my day, these issues were discussed beginning in 8th grade. "You're Not Still Nursing Her, Are You?" - Blog Entry22 Feb 2007 09:34 AM Sometimes, even in church, it is OK to say "I don't remember asking your opinion." Looking For My Waist: I Can't Believe I Ate the Whole Thing - Blog Entry22 Feb 2007 08:43 AM Maybe seeing someone enjoy a big bowl of veggies in front of you will help like it helps my kids... If you eat it, your kids will eat it too! When Your Ethics and Your Income Collide - Blog Entry22 Feb 2007 06:35 AM Back in my T'ware days, It seems that my best customers were poor. I did have an ethical problem with that too. I preferred not to do it at all. My Passion Has Changed - Blog Entry21 Feb 2007 09:14 PM This is the second time I have read this post. I didn't comment the first time because it left me speachless. All I can say now is Love does some funny things.. good post.
