Tell Me a Story! Libraries and Free Phone Stories - Blog Entry

This sounds cool... After reading two chapters of "Little Women" or "Cheaper by the Dozen" to my 10 year old, I am completely hoarse. We use books on tape (cd) to let her listen to her favorite books over and over again. Even after renewing a 3 week loan 3 times, she is still not tired of these stories. Sure, she can read them, but there's nothing like a bedtime story!

btw, the test says my stands are safe, that's because I basically leave my hair alone... no drying, little combing, etc. Ps. I am thinning too... nobody ever warned me about this!

When you say 1 meal a day, you mean 1 meal and fruits and veggies for your other meals, right?

Interplanetary Parenting - Blog Entry

Being homeshcooled, my kids are a little less radical because of lack of peer pressure. However, each child has their own unique way of dressing. My daughter is from the school of Pipi Longstocking (lots of stripes and mis matchin), and my Son is Sophisticated Urban (Loose jeans with dress shirts and apple caps.)

As for piercings, I follow the same rules my mom instituted. You can do whatever you want when you are 21... not 18, 21. If we waited that long, she would buy diamond jewelry for the peircings. Somehow my need for a nose ring wore off, and my brother got a HUGE diamond studs for his single ear!

Tatoos is my pet peave. I feel like it will exclude your from certain professions, even being the spouses of people in certain professions later in life. Tatoo removal is a pain!

When it Gets Too Hard to Help With Homework - Blog Entry

After my graduation ceremony, my husband (then boyfriend) said to me. "You have proven you can learn". I wanted to bop him, but that is really all a college degree means... being able to learn information needed for the moment. Actually retaining what was taught in middle and high school... that's a huge feat!

Celebrating Black History Month - Blog Entry

We live near the King Center and will definately visit this month. I like your music exposure approach. At the homeschool classes my kids attend, they reported being singled out (being the only black kids) during lessons this past week so be careful of that... (Child's name) would not be able to have class with us if it were not for Dr. King. It made them very uncomfortable. Last year they got to take turns "playing at being slaves". Another bad idea... but they did try, and fortunately my kids tell me everything so I was able to point out what I did and did not like about these lessons.

Are Single Sex Classes the Solution? - Blog Entry

I bet you would get more male teachers if there were more all male classes. Many men would jump at the chance to mentor such a group... however, I bet they would get paid more creating that seperate, but not quite so equal dillema.
