My New Outlet Shopping Tip - Blog Entry

I wouldn't say that little girls should always wear shorts under dresses... sometimes it's just too hot or makes the dress look bulky. However, if they are running and playing in the dresses, it is a good idea. For my daughter, until she was about 5, I put cute little bloomers under her dresses... Even at 13, I require bike shorts under the shorter skirts. It's actually a cute fashion statement.

Do You Take Your Kids to Funerals? - Blog Entry

07 Jul 2009 09:47 AM

I have only taken my kids to the funerals of close family members. I have offered them the opportunity to go to others, but they have declined. At 13 and 15, they can make their own decision.

Parents and Public Restroom Problems - Blog Entry

My husband took my daughter into the mens room until she was about three... After that, if there was no unisex bathroom, he would stand outside the ladies room and call her name every 30 seconds. It was probably creepy to women inside, but it worked. I took my son into the ladies room until he was five or six. After that I asked him to hold it until he got home for the next few years. Some horrible things have happened in men's rooms in our area to boys as old as 10 or 11.

Avoiding obesity in the teen years - Blog Entry

I sincerely hope that the consensus is to not agree with the commenter... for two reasons.

First, they only mention the overweight girl... what about male kids. In my case, my son is having much more of a struggle.

Second, anorexia is more deadly that being overweight. It is not worth the risk.

Parents Versus the Ice Cream Man - Blog Entry

25 Jun 2009 07:03 AM

Is it true? I don't have studies, but the nose knows.

Any ice cream truck I have ever approached in GA, kind of made me sick to my stomach... not clean, and the ice cream is mis-shapen, a result of thawing and refreezing.

Where I grew up in NY, that wasn't a problem... the ice cream sold too fast for it to get a chance to thaw. The trucks always seemed cleaner.

So cleanliness factor may depend on local rules, sellers, and availability of customers... but we've seen enough yucky trucks that I was able to convince the kids that they are all yucky.

I've simply convinced my kids that ice cream from these trucks were less than safe and hardly tasty as they had been thawed and re-frozen numerous times... Yuck. Of course such reasoning doesn't happen before age 9 or 10. My bigger problems is that bad icecream from these trucks can and does make kids sick.

Female Student Fights for Her Right to Wear Pants to Graduation - Blog Entry

Slacks are dress pants as in, suit pants without the Jacket.

As for whether the girl should have been able to wear pants a dress... I think it's kinda sexist to demand the girl bare her ankles or else. Perhaps she is not comfortable in bare legs... I have several female friends who just hate dresses and everything else about them is perfectly the same as any other woman. A compromise could have been a split skirt (gauchos, long skort)... but in the end, some old traditions need to die.

Families That Fly Separately to the Same Destination - Blog Entry

08 Jun 2009 09:29 AM

We have flown separately, but more because of logistics as my husband had to work one more day, and so flew separately with my son. I tend to fly with my daughter because we like to take advantage of "girl time" and like to get a longer vacation... but if our schedules match, we fly together.

My wonder is would thy have chosen the non-doomed flight had they flown together.... I bet that would really eat at the husband.
