Before they get to Simon and Randy, the contestants are prescreened. It seems to me that they let the most and least talented through, and screen out the mediocre. " Birthday Parties- Are Some Parents Going Too Far? - Blog Entry17 Jan 2007 06:13 AM I am with Valorie... for many cultures, and some communiites, you invite everybody. We didn't have alot of birthday parties growing up because my parents could not afford to throw what would amount to a block party as I had a very large family and all of our friends had very large families.... so when I threw my first large kids party, I had the block party for my kids I always wanted to have. Our white friends slowed down thier cars just enough to let the kids jump out and to wave. Our black and hispanic friends parked their cars and either joined in the fun, or helped out. The best part about parents staying is that when the big parties are over, parents help you clean and it only takes a few minutes! The only exception to everyone participating is having a girls sleepover, parents will gladly push thier kids into your house and run away! Choosing Whether and How to Adopt Transracially--Our Decision - Blog Entry16 Jan 2007 05:34 PM Just as a starving man will not pick and choose over basket of apples, but grab the first one to catch his eye, regardless of shade, I wish adopted children were plucked up just as eagerly. But I am admittantly niave. It saddens me that blacks would tell whites they don't have the right to love a black child and then go on to convince them as to why the green apple might be more filling than the red, when they are just starving to love a child as their own. It is just very, very sad. I have to admit however, that I find myself staring whenever I see a black child with parents that don't match. It must be disconcerting to have people stare like that.
