My husband and I are hoping to retire in about 20 years (around the time we turn 60). We can't wait to be able to fulfill our callings!

Birthday Parties- Are Some Parents Going Too Far? - Blog Entry

16 Jan 2007 01:30 PM

I held a carnival one year for my kids whose birthday is two weeks apart. I got "playful" punches in the arm for the rest of the year as all of thier friends wanted a big party too. Our next big party will be for sweet sixteen and something of that magnitude for him, probably at 18.

Ask a Baby Blogger: Should I Use a Nipple Shield? - Blog Entry

Interesting story of a bad nursing habit that was unable to break. My I had my first child, my nipple became unbearably sore on top, so I laid on my side and nursed my child upside down. I was stuck nursing him upside down for a whole year on that side, which meant unless we were home, he only got one side and the other side would sometimes get engourged.

This is so horribly sad... and my kids have been curious about water intoxication too... I guess I have to tell them that it really does happen.

African American Support of Transracial Adoption - Blog Entry

kCG8483, there are always going to be people who don't like what you do and will question your motives... what you must remember is that 90% of a persons problem with you stems from their own issues. It it is in your heart to transracially adopt, then, by all means, do it.

Yes! My daughter competes in pageants... and I remind her daily that is she wants to win the talent portion, she needs to practice, practice, practice. Great pianists (which is her talent) practice much more than 15 minutes a day!

How Would Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Feel About Homeschooling? - Blog Entry

16 Jan 2007 04:27 AM

I have always said that to be a world leader... to want to be that much in the public eye, you had to be a little 'off' in some way. (Look at the track record of our Presidents) Years later, Kings "sins" may be coming to light. But "let whoever is without sin throw the first stone".

No matter what I discover in the future, that will never take away the fact that he gave his life so that my kids and I don't have to drink from a rusty fountain for colored people. No matter what I learn about his sins, will not erase the words I have learned (his speech) that let me know as a child that it was OK to be black... before that, I questioned my worth. I will continue to celebrate him and his speech.

How Would Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Feel About Homeschooling? - Blog Entry

This is definately the first rumor I have heard of plagarism of his speech. Here is what wikipedia says about:

"It has been charged that for his "I Have A Dream" speech King plagiarized the 1952 address of Archibald Carey to the Republican National Convention, the similarities being in the reference to the Samuel Francis Smith patriotic hymn "America" in the peroration followed by a listing of geographical locations from which the orator exhorts his audience to "let freedom ring." Many, however, believe that the comparisons are so slightly similar that they do not rise to the level of plagiarism" I will look into it further.

Trusting Your Instincts: Know When to Say No - Blog Entry

I know very few people Julie (our age), who were not subject to some kind of perversion. Being made to feel that we could not say no did not help. It was just not televised and reported waaaaay back then
