kCG8483, there are always going to be people who don't like what you do and will question your motives... what you must remember is that 90% of a persons problem with you stems from their own issues. It it is in your heart to transracially adopt, then, by all means, do it.

Yes! My daughter competes in pageants... and I remind her daily that is she wants to win the talent portion, she needs to practice, practice, practice. Great pianists (which is her talent) practice much more than 15 minutes a day!

I have always said that to be a world leader... to want to be that much in the public eye, you had to be a little 'off' in some way. (Look at the track record of our Presidents) Years later, Kings "sins" may be coming to light. But "let whoever is without sin throw the first stone".

No matter what I discover in the future, that will never take away the fact that he gave his life so that my kids and I don't have to drink from a rusty fountain for colored people. No matter what I learn about his sins, will not erase the words I have learned (his speech) that let me know as a child that it was OK to be black... before that, I questioned my worth. I will continue to celebrate him and his speech.

This is definately the first rumor I have heard of plagarism of his speech. Here is what wikipedia says about:

"It has been charged that for his "I Have A Dream" speech King plagiarized the 1952 address of Archibald Carey to the Republican National Convention, the similarities being in the reference to the Samuel Francis Smith patriotic hymn "America" in the peroration followed by a listing of geographical locations from which the orator exhorts his audience to "let freedom ring." Many, however, believe that the comparisons are so slightly similar that they do not rise to the level of plagiarism" I will look into it further.

It sounds like a good idea but... the reason there is not threat of a child getting a spanking is that parents are afraid to hit their children for fear of child abuse charges... this is why kids are so bad.

When I was in school, it was not the spankings the kids feared, but the public spankings by the parent while still at the school. Now it looks like parents hands are tied coming and going. Remove the initial threat and allow parents to discipline their kids in the first place and (with the exception of kids being used for labor) the fine would not be necessary.

Too True, back when I was growing up, we weren't even allowed to set such boundaries. "Say hello to Aunt or Uncle so and so", "give such and such a hug or kiss". "Do whatever the teacher tells you". "The prncipal is you pal"... WHATEVER! I, like you, allow my kids to say no to any and every situation that does not feel right, and encourage them to tell me when they think I should be more wary. We have instints for a reason!
