When it comes to education and life planning, I think a parent needs to set expectations. You WILL go to college. You WILL get good grades. You WILL NOT drive drunk. I am convinced that all kids have a genius in them... it is up to the teacher to find it and grow on it, not step on it while humoring the parent. From my own experiences, I would say that the better teachers are the ones who were excited work with the kids on a daily basis.
