Food for Thought: The Congressional Food Stamp Challenge

05 Jun 2007 08:25 AM

I spend about $40.00 per person a week on groceries, but I buy organic and that includes non food items. So maybe I spend closer to $30.00 per person a week. When I had had to, I have spent $80.00 a week on the four of us... even when we had babies in diapers. (I breastfed and washed cloth diapers myself).

I think those on assistance do need help economizing. Those not on assistance certainly have to.

Mom Sues School Over Bullying

04 Jun 2007 09:12 PM

I had a younger sibling who was a bully, and no matter how I tried... having had been bullied myself, there was no getting throught to him.. Mom, of course stuck her head in the sand. Looking back, it was a defense mechanism because he was taunted in earlier years because of his size. Hurt people, hurt people.

Creating an Office in Your Closet

02 Jun 2007 01:24 PM

When my kids were babies, we had to move our home office into the coat closet as the kids needed the spare bedroom. We did something very similar, but since the closet was very wide, we kept the doors on and were able to shut the closet door when not in use to keep the kiddies off the computer equipment.

No, it was far... at least a mile, but back then, I could walk a mile in 20 minutes. It also kept me slim!

Having walked to private school most days when I was younger, and walking to public high school as well, I can see how this is a perk.

Summer Courses or Summer Vacation?

31 May 2007 08:38 AM

This was the "trick" I used to get through college with good grades. I took the courses I most feared alone during the summer, often alone. That way I could focus on my other classes during the school year. So often, one class gets the bulk of the attention when it is difficult, and makes what should be easy A's, effortless B's.
