Toddlers and Hair-Pulling - Blog Entry

My son has had his moments of hair pulling, biting, and tantrums, yet we have managed to control his behavior with a stern reaction...which proves to work well for him. My best friend/neighbor, on the otherhand, has a son who is 18 months old and out of control on all fronts: biting, hitting, hair pulling, & screaming. It is a guarantee my son (1 year) will get injuried with marks when they play together. Now, my personal belief is that this childs behavior is a result from the parenting style, yet in that same breathe I know that my child and my neighbors child have a completely different personality. What do you do to a child at 19 months who will not sit in time out, who will not flinch if you yell or slap a hand? My girlfriend makes excuses for his age, but there has to be a solution.
