Haha. My brother-in-law did the exact same thing your brother did, only BIL was 17 or 18 at the time. One of his great-uncles called and asked for "DJ" which was his father's nickname. Nowadays, however, we all know him as "Dan".

I'm a computer technician so, yeah, I'd have to say I'm the most computer savvy one in our house. I've also fixed an old Nintendo game system and can program my VCR, thank you very much.

So Your Child Wants to Stay Home Alone - Blog Entry

My son is only 3 months old, so I don't have to worry about this as a mom for a long time yet. My parents, however, left me home alone for the first time when I was around age 11. I remember it well. They knew I was responsible. I knew not to open the door for anyone. If I answered the telephone, I was to say my parents were sleeping, in the shower, or otherwise indisposed. I wasn't about to use the stove or anything else that could catch fire (and I knew to get out of the house and go to the neighbor's house if a fire should occur anyway). We also had a very protective German Shepherd who made me feel safer being home alone.

For my first solo, my parents went to a local restaurant for only an hour or so. They left me the phone number to the restaurant and told me to call if I felt uncomfortable.
