12 Sep 2006 07:40 AM Diagnoses Known!
For so long I have longed for someone to help answer the questions that I had about my eight year old and what was going on with him. I knew that he was different, but I didn't know why. The other children that are around him, know that he is different and they didn't know why. JD, himself knows that he is different and HE wants to know why! Finally, I have someone that has answered my long lost questions. JD was tested at the beginning of the school year by the school district to see what was going on with him and why he was so withdrawn. Well, last Thursday, I met with the school and they opened up my eyes to a whole new light on my child. My child has Asperger's and needs to receive help in school to be able to succeed. Now, I finally know and JD knows that someone out there can and will help him. I have the most wonderful neighbors and best friend that any one can ask for. You are probably wondering what this has to do with JD and his Asperger's. Well, I will tell you. See, she told her children that JD is different and she explained what they should and shouldn't do with JD. Guess what? JD has been so happy that the other night we had dinner with them and the oldest child said, "JD sit next to me to eat". JD had the biggest smile on his face that I haven't seen in so long. What a great friend and a great mother. I can say that I have the pleasure to call her my best friend and our child can grow up together. Now that I know what is really going on with my son. I have to find a psychiatrist to help him with the diagnoses and his high anxiety level. This has been a challenge. But, I know that god will only give me what I can handle and nothing more. I know that I will work through all the hoops and find someone out there that is willing to help my son. But, for the mean time, he has his friends right next door! floridamama (9691) 17 Sep 2006 06:46 PMAndrea, If you get the chance pick up the book "The Oasis Guide to Aspergers Syndrome." It's like the bible for aspergers information! My sis sent it to me for Colin, and I can't put it down. It's sooo informative. I hope this also helps you out with JD. Hope you are doing well too! Talk to ya later! Shannon jrw (15) 15 Dec 2006 12:20 AMYour post brought HUGE tears to my eyes. i unfortunately have not had the same compassion from a few friends and it has been hard and I have had to sever relationship with a 20 year friend because she had to protect her daughter from my son. He is an 11 year old with aspergers, ADHD, OCD and anxiety. He is doing sooo well in my eyes. He received the academic award in his classroom and he has not had a meltdown in longer than I can remember. He is mastering frienships and relationships, getting in tough with his feeling and emotions. The things that most people take for granted are things that I am overjoyed to see him accomplish. It is too bad but what I just read really helped me out, not everyone will judge us. Discuss this article
