Family Home Evening: Bible Stories - Blog Entry

When our children were teenagers--we sometimes combined Bible stories with similar, but modern parables, i.e. short stories about current day young people going through teenage trials of their own. These stories appeared in the New Era back in those days, and provided excellent material that a teen could present to the family when it was his or her turn. The story was read aloud and then discussed according to questions asked by the presenter. We all learned many things this way.

What Value Do You Put On Family? - Blog Entry

I enjoyed this article. It represents my feelings about family life to a T. As a family, we did all the things you suggest, including settling for smaller, humbler homes (we moved a lot) in exchange for me being a stay-at-home mother. I'm grateful for that choice as I look back on our adventures and joys rearing children in England. Hard work, but oh, so worth it.

How can we expect our youth to value family life when they're old enough to marry, if we don't do our best to make it happen for them while they're young.

I would also recommend books by an LDS author by the name of Tamra Norton, who also writes for the National market. Her "Make Me A Memory" is receiving plenty of attention, and she often tours schools helping children understand in many ways.
