Keep a Sick Child at Home! - Blog Entry

I happen to agree with the article, that sick kids shouldn't be sent to school, but let's also remember that a lot of schools have VERY strict attendance policies. The parents could end up with DFS called on them either way... send the kids when sick and someone will report you. Don't send them, and the school will report for violating the attendance policy.

Calling DFS should NEVER be taken lightly. A family could be destroyed all because a parent wasn't sure if the child should go to school or not. It is an adversarial system, NOT a therapeutic one.

Having worked in the system (and in schools), I see far too many people that will call and report someone in an instant simply because they don't like or agree with their parenting style (not because of any real maltreatment).

Instead of trying to have children taken away from their parents, maybe improving the way sickness is dealt with in school would be a better option. Maybe they should institute a "no fever" policy, since that is when children are contagious...

Some people don't mind... at least not until it's time to sell. It makes a bigger difference than most people think.

Don't you love simple ideas? The baking soda "sachet" is from Woman's Day. Corn starch works too, especially for sweaty feet. Maybe mix a little of both together...

Thanks, Mary Ann.

3 Natural Autumn Centerpieces - Blog Entry

I love centerpieces. My first (or at least one of my first) articles on this site was about centerpieces, and I'll be doing more soon. They are a great way to make an impact without a lot of fuss or money.

If I had to choose, I would pick your third idea. :o)
