Being There

With all due respect, if you're not there for your kids, if you're not involved in their upbringing, you can not possibly expect a good result. You can't show up to speak your lines, and you can't phone in your performance from St. Louis. Now, I'm sorry if your kids have intruded upon your life and have made life more inconvenient for you; but, and it's a big but, THIS IS YOUR NEW LIFE. You can read all the parenting books from Zanzibar to Barkley Square; if you are not motivated to do the best for your kids, then you will suffer the consequences in spades. I wish I could sugarcoat that, but I can't; I wish I had a feelgood story to diffuse the pain, but I don't. HOW WELL YOUR CHILDREN TURN OUT IS DIRECTLY CORRELATED TO THE TIME AND ENERGY THAT YOU PLACE IN THEIR DEVELOPMENT.
