Basic Nurture: Catching Up - Blog Entry

16 Feb 2007 03:41 PM

Ed, as sad as this story is, it is also common in adopted children. When we got the boys, they were too old to nurse and rock. I would get them to sit next to me while watching tv and put my arm around them, hug them several times during the day, and find whatever way I could to physically touch them to give them the reassurance they needed so desperately. Uncle Paul would hug and pat on the back a lot, with a good job or good report card. When you and Nancy rocked and nursed the boys, I know you made a tremendous difference in their nurturing issues and it will show throughout their lives. We all need someone to look us in the eyes and say I love you, to hold us and make us feel safe. Your boys are so blessed. Artcraft

The Light... it's so Beautiful... ZAP! (ADHD) - Blog Entry

You are right on track Kristyn. We have a consequences conversation a lot. We also play the what if scenario. It seems to help Randy get in focus with the situation by making him stop and think for a minute, not an easy task for an ADHD child. Artcraft

Nocturnal Enuresis: Bed Wetting - Blog Entry

10 Feb 2007 06:32 AM

Thank you rsbg. Bedwetting is common and something that shouldn't cause a great deal of tension between child and parent. It's one of those deal with it and eventually it will go away situations. Making your child a part of the solution by helping clean up is important, if the child is old enough.

Cooking Is An Art-Are You An Artist? - Blog Entry

Great ideas for the novice cook Cathy. I would like to add to the list. Find an older and experienced cook and learn his or her tricks. I paid attention as a young girl and asked questions. Seasoned cooks love to pass on their secrets. These secrets can make the difference in a fair meal and a meal of fare. A basic cookbook is a great idea, forget the gourmet Russian recipes and learn the basics. Less is more at the table. A good entree, fresh sides, homemade bread, a colorful salad and homemade salad dressing is manna from heaven! Love your blogs. Artcraft

Decorating Your Outdoor Space with Found Objects - Blog Entry

After my dad passed away, we took his old mailbox down. I planted purslane in it and put it in a flowerbed in my backyard. After Paul's dad sold their family home recently, we took the family name sign down his now deceased bro made many yrs ago. I put sturdy clothing hooks in it and it hangs in the bathroom for the kids' towels.
