Friend or Parent to Your Child? - Blog Entry

Being their parent and not their friend is hard. On one hand, you want them to be comfortable coming to you with everything and you want them to want you around but on the other hand, if you cross the line from parent to friend, they could stop looking at you as a parent. On my blog, http://christianparentingtipsandideas.blogspot.com/2008/10/be-their-parent-not-their-friend.html I wrote about this topic. It is a line that is hard to stay on top of but parents need to stay parents. It is ok for your parent/child relationship to allow confidentiality and the parents need to understand that responsibility but going out drinking or smoking with your child should never be condoned until that child has moved out of the house and is on his or her own!
