Not much snow here in Mississippi this winter, although we got 4 miutes of sleet, but maybe when I get back to my home in Virginia! I love these ideas. I had forgotten. We used to do this when I was a kid, back when the earth was still cooling!

Friday Funnies: Living On A Budget - Blog Entry

Frugal humor from the pulpit...related to freezer cooking and why proper labelling is KEY to sucess.... I cannot remember the specific sermon topic anymore, but I remember that our Priest had put a large piece of frozen bread dough into a sermon-relevant display at the front of the church, with some wheat stalks, old wine vessels and some other items in a nice arrangement. He put the frozen dough out early in the afternoon so that the bread would be thawing and rising in time for the 5 PM Saturday mass. He thought he had timed it pretty well but when he peeked down front from the back of the church, he saw that the bread didn't rise, didn't rise, didn't rise. He heard confessions in the afternoon, and then just before he put on his vestements for the mass, he checked the bread once more and it still didn't look as if it had risen. He finally walked down to the front of the church to get a good look at the bread, and realized that it was NEVER going to rise-he had been thawing a turkey breast. He decided then and there to start labelling his freezer goods! Because as we say, things look completely different once they are frozen!!

New Cheap Date Ideas - Blog Entry

18 Feb 2007 01:29 PM

Is wasnt necessarily cheap, but my husband and I alotted some money and got a season's subscription to a local professional community theatre's productions with another couple. Probably 5 plays, some musicals, some not,. The point was that it FORCED us to go out together, and it was fun! Maybe once we met the other couple for dinner before, sometimes we just had the coffee and dessert it intermission and sat and talked with our friends, and sometimes we would get an ice cream cone with them afterward. We didnt spend big bucks on food, in other words. THey have kids too! It made us go out and it was great. It didnt work this season, but we hope for next year. We also like library dates-this can accomodate the kids. The 11 year old finds and starts a new book or magazine, the 6 year old plays at the puzzle table and my hubby and I sit and read together. Not a big date, but it is a cheap night out. And look out when we go there without the kids!! We sometimes chat with each other!!! Keep those cheap date ideas coming!
