Maybe, Someday

Maybe the sun will come up tomorrow
It may snow

Maybe the world will find peace tomorrow
And someone might notice.

Maybe someone will find a cure for cancer
and the drug companies will let them

Maybe people will want to watch reality,
instead of TV

Maybe

Maybe someone will stop and give a hand
to someone who really needs it

Maybe that person will be black, or white
or poor or homeless

Maybe it won't matter

Some morning the sun will come up
and shine on us
and we won't take it for granted

Someday we will choose to walk instead of drive
choose to give instead of take
choose to love instead of hate

Someday someone is going to have to say
" I'm sorry."
and mean it.

Someday someone is going to
have to help someone they don't know
bury their dead
and they will grieve too
instead of watching it on CNN

What inspired your poem?

Aurora (303) 02 Jun 2006 07:03 PM

Hi Carson, a lot of things inspired this poem, but the thing that inspired me to finish it was a passage from the blog The Tao Of Pauly :

"If more Americans read books every night instead of watching TV, we'd live in a more productive society. If more Americans watched the news and read real newspapers and magazines, instead of crappy programs like American Idol, then I'm confident that George Bush would not be our president. But heck, that's what our leaders really want deep down... a mindless, uneducated populous that will work 40 hours a week so they can earn enough money to buy things to keep them distracted from the evil deeds that our leaders and suits in Fortune 500 companies are conducting everyday under your noses."
