I'm taking my old cat (nearly 20 years) to the vet this afternoon. We are going to asses her health and make a decision about what to do next. The very fact that we have to do this means that she is not doing well, and I have a feeling I know what the outcome will be. She has been my friend and companion for all my adult life. She has rubbed her face on my tear stained cheeks, slept on my pillow when I was lonely. She gave me reasons to worry and reasons to be happy. She has never scratched my two kids - even when they thought hugging her meant laying on top of her, and that picking her up meant grabbing her by the head! They have learned and she has watched them growing. She would meow for me when my oldest was a baby and was crying, she came to get me when this same kid got her head stuck in the bannister. I know she is near the end. I can't imagine having another pet when she is gone, and I can't imagine how big the hole in my heart is gonig to be. Nicole Humphrey (15757) 13 Jun 2006 12:46 PMMy heart goes out to you. I know how difficult that is. We put a dog to sleep a few months back and it was (still is!) the hardest thing I've ever done. We just got a new cat from the shelter today. We have one that is 13 years old already at home. We decided that the kids needed a new cat "just in case". I will pray that all goes well. Keep your chin up and continue to love her. Aurora (303) 14 Jun 2006 08:41 AMThanks Nicole. It is very hard. we take in these pets, we love them without reservation even knowing that someday we will lose them. And then, we do it all over again Community Tags cat, kittens, pet loss, rainbow bridge, veterinarian Discuss this article
