For Freelance Writers--Do You Keep a Journal Too? - Blog Entry

16 Mar 2008 09:24 PM

I agree. When we moved house last year I had boxes and boxes filled with journals. And yes, I do go back to them and pull ideas from them for my writing. A number of my Christian blogs have come from those journals.

We were a one income family but our kids never realised we weren't well off financially and that some toys were second had like a swing set and scooter -repainted. What Can You Tell from How a Child Colors? - Blog Entry

14 Mar 2008 02:55 PM

I noticed the different ways children color last week in a scripture class. Some insist on colouring in the exact colors of the picture they had been shown. As a general rule girls tend to color between lines more than boys, but not always. My son was neat at coloring. When my children were little I always tried to help them break out of the stereotypes and be imginative and end up with pink and orange skies or blue tres etc. Our daughter grew up to study art. I wonder how much was already in her and how much parents can foster and develop imagination.

Public Displays of Affection: How Much is Too Much? - Blog Entry

My husband and I always hold hands and the occsiaonl brief kiss depending on the circumstances when out. See http://christian.families.com/blog/keeping-the-happily-ever-after More than that makes people uncomfortable I think and should be kept for private moments. One thing I have noticed is that older couples often seem more into the holding hands etc than young couples today (in Australia anyway) and i know organisations like Marriage Encounter, etc, aimed at improving marriages encourage this personal holding hands etc contact.

Teaching Children Through Song - Blog Entry

We use a lot of Colin Buchanan songs. Our grandchildren love him and know most of his songs. Colin is an Aussie singer. Good tunes and biblical truths presented in a fun way. Last week at our Scripture class we taught the simple John 3:16 by Jenny Flack. We taught that years ago at a kids club and my daughter, our adult, says she still always hears that verse set to music.

No-one even mentioned these things years ago when I was pregnant with my son. Result was, I smoked through that pregnancy but had given it up before our daughter was conceived. I dealt with stopping smoking in my blog http://christian.families.com/blog/getting-rid-of-clutter
