Does Your Mate Remind You of Your Parent? - Blog Entry

Sounds like a smart move, Jade. You made a conscious choice. Unfortunately not everyone does. There is a certain extent to which it is true, so that children who are abused etc can tend to grow up and repeat the cycle etc. But I think we need to always be careful when we generalise. My husband is not like my father in that he is nowhere near as quiet but he is in other ways, like helping about the house.

Walking the Mother-Daughter Tightrope (3) - Blog Entry

Teaching them when they are young children and then trusting them to know the right decisions when they are older is part of parenting. But it's not always easy to step back and watch them make mistakes, but if we have taught them well and given them a framework of behavior early on, hopefully they won't make many serious ones. Communication is certainly another vital aspect. My daughter and I have always talked heaps. She is an adult now and we are close friends as well as mother and daughter, as I was with my own mother. In neither case we there any serious issues in the teenage years.

Life Should Be Easier, Right? - Blog Entry

I know, sometimes God seems to have more faith in what I can handle than I do. But God's word says 'all things work together for good' even the hard things. So, since God doesn't lie we have to trust he knows better than we do and knows what he's doing and why. Sometimes it's a case of knowing that truth in the head and heart while the emotions are trying to convince us differently, but as someone said to me and I found it helpful, it doesn't rely on our feelings but the facts of God's word. Have a look at the opening peom in my blog http://christian.families.com/blog/10-tips-for-combating-negative-feelings-and-improving-your-quiet-time and you'll see how I was feeling when I wrote the poem and some suggestions for those times when it ishard to meet with the Lord.
