Eg instead of 'Do you want to sit and listen to the story now' it was something like.'We're going over to the story mat now to listen to a story.' State it positively and expect co-operation and you often get it. I used it with my own children. I agree about the prevention aspect., In Search of Gluten Free Recipes - Blog Entry02 Mar 2008 05:11 PM Being caeful about what to buy when needing to be gluten free is time consuming. It's the almsot hidden ingredients you have to watch for. After I was put on a wheat and glyten free diet a few years ago, it took us hours to shop as we read labels etc. These day more products are coming out and there are gluten free pizza bases etc. But I'm lazy and use corn tortillas as pizza bases. How Long Does it Take to Make a Habit? - Blog Entry02 Mar 2008 05:05 PM Funny things habits. As a pre-schooler, my daughter used to suck her thumb. Nothing I did or said or tried changed it. But one word from the dentist (who was gorgeous and she loved him) stopped her overnight. I've linked to this blog in my latest blog http://christian.families.com/blog/getting-rid-of-clutter Stress and Women - Blog Entry02 Mar 2008 04:58 PM Good practical suggestions, Aimee. Parents. . .Don't Frustrate Your Children - Blog Entry28 Feb 2008 09:43 PM We certainly learn from our God what being a good parent is all about. I love the way God knows even our smallest unspoken desires and is gracious in answering them. See my latest blog, Unspoken but not unheard. Children Obey Your Parents - Blog Entry28 Feb 2008 09:35 PM Welcome Valorie as guest blogger. I realised when my second child was born that it would be easy for me to 'exasperate' her, unless I chose which issues were important to be strong and which required obedience and which were not worth the hassle. Other times it was important to say no and stick to it, as in my blogs http://christian.families.com/blog/are-you-prepared-to-say-no and http://christian.families.com/blog/parenting-and-the-word-no Sometimes, Saying "No" is Not Enough - Blog Entry25 Feb 2008 03:04 PM Couldn't agree more, Kori. The word "No' on its own is ineffective. It needs the follow through. Parenting requires making the hard decisions. It might make a parent unpopular for a while but it's worth it in the long run. I've written two blogs about this. http://christian.families.com/blog/are-you-prepared-to-say-no http://christian.families.com/blog/parenting-and-the-word-no Sadly, as you pointed out, some peopeel aren't prepared to follow through after the 'No'. 5 Great Recipes to Throw in the Crock Pot - Blog Entry24 Feb 2008 05:28 PM How funny, I was already planning beef stroganoff for dinner in guess what? the precious crock pot. More Tips On Using Your Crock Pot - Blog Entry24 Feb 2008 05:24 PM I have a crock pot and like you I love it and can't understand why other people don't use theirs more often. It's very easy for hospitality and entertaining, as it leaves the cook free to chat with guests, since so much is done beforehand and if people are late arriving for dinner it doesn't matter. Meat is always so tender you can use cheaper cuts , so it is economical. I appreciated some of your tips I didn't know.
