The Value of Family - Blog Entry

05 Apr 2006 04:03 AM

Family is at the core of everything we are, is affected by everything we do, and will play a major part in our eternal progression. How fitting it is that, as we make our way through this world that, time and again, we are drawn into our "family circle" by the struggles that we face, or by the struggles that others must endure. Heavenly Father undoubtedly "programmed" us to need each other to make it through our challenges. True happiness is really only achieved through serving others, so this really works out well for us all. Thanks you so much for your insights and for the glimpse into your life.

Personal Prayer and How it Soothes the Soul - Blog Entry

31 Mar 2006 03:38 AM

How wonder is the power of prayer!! I recently sat in a sacrament meeting with feelings of such deep despair, worrying about my struggling business, my health and my wife and children. It seemed like it had been years since I had felt the comfort of the Holy Ghost, or had an answer to a prayer. So I sat there as the sacrament was being passed, prayeing, no, pleading with Father to hear me, to help me, to aknowlege me, anything! "PLEASE" I whispered, and suddenly, like someone sitting right beside, only talking into my heart, came the reasurring communication that I had been heard all along. The whispers continued, counseling me, teaching me. "The gospel is so simple, don't make it so difficult", it said. "Listen to the primary children singing the simple songs", and I suddenly realized that the primary was putting on the program that day. There they all were, standing along the railing of the podium, singing loudly and out of tune, looking down at their parents for approval the same way I was looking upward for the same reason. The voice continued as tears welled up in my eyes, running down my face. I wanted so much to share this experience with my 16 year old son sitting beside me, so he could feel his Heavenly Fathers love, so he could be lifted up, freed from this own despair that is so evident in his eyes. Oh, what a beautiful day! Thank you Candace!

Filling the Well Within When it's Been Sucked Dry - Blog Entry

When I read the first paragraph of this blog, I was just certain that you were talking about me! That is my entire existence in a nutshell. The world just goes too fast these days, thanks to cell phones and computers, etcetera. As a man, I am a bit uncomfortable with the advice you give, but let me throw a couple of ideas out to the men reading this. First, sports is always a great stress reducer. For me this comes in to form of ice hockey. My son and I play together on a mens league team once a week. I look forward to that time like almost nothing else. Another thing that I like to do is to set up a surprise night out on the town with my wife. Hey, it's not as bad as the images you are conjuring up right now! I mean, come on guys. What is more gratifying that an extatically happy wife? Trust me, it is well worth the little bit of effort it takes to pull it off and, remember, the benefits are two fold. You get the pleasure of creating a diversion from life, and you come home to a happy wife who adores you!!

Prophetic Promises of Family Home Evening - Blog Entry

As a child, an admittedly difficult child at that, I found great happiness in the well organized gatherings that my parents would put together for our family. Although I often was a trouble maker and the one responsible for breaking up the spiritual harmony which always can into our home on those nights, I have fond and special memories from those times, and I try to recreate them in my own home now that I am a father. Thank you for reminding us all of the importance of FHE and the rich rewards which are ours by doing this small thing right.
