In Honor of President Gordon B Hinckley - Blog Entry

That talk he gave, I think it was called "To the Women of the Church" was one of my all time favorites. I am really going to miss him. :(

Paris Hilton-Life Behind Bars - Blog Entry

07 May 2007 06:56 AM

I hope she doesn't get out of it. I think anyone who is caught driving under the influence should have to do mandatory jail time. A good friend of my parents daughter lost her husband and her 5 month old baby to a drunk driving accident (a drunk driver hit them). She was in a coma for a month. And yet, it seems as though DUI's are treated as a slap on the wrist. I could care less if she is Paris Hilton, she needs to understand the seriousness of her actions and she needs to be held accountable for her choices. I know she is being put in jail for driving on a suspended license, but perhaps she will think twice before getting behind the wheel while intoxicated.

Alec's Apologies---From Bad To Worse - Blog Entry

27 Apr 2007 08:50 AM

I've never cared for Alec Baldwin, and I don't really have much of an opinion on Kim Basinger... I personally think that they both need to grow up and quit putting their daughter through this long drawn out custody battle. I could be wrong, but it seems to me that it mostly boils down to wanting to "win" (and I don't mean that in a good way). I find it hard to believe that they have their daughters best interest at heart when they are continually dragging this out. Poor girl, I feel very bad for her.

Disney Reconsiders Releasing "Song of the South" on DVD - Blog Entry

06 Apr 2007 11:27 AM

Correct me if I am wrong, but I also think that it shows people that they can choose to have a positive attitude regardless of circumstances.... could be wrong, I haven't seen the movie since I was a kid, and all I remember of it is an old black man singing with a huge smile on his face.... I think they should release it. I remember really enjoying it.

Suicide: What Do You Think about It? - Blog Entry

01 Mar 2007 04:18 PM

In 10th grade we were required to write a paper on a controversial subject. I chose suicide. My English teacher didn't care for what I wrote because I wrote that I also did not find it a selfish act. Although many of my views about it have changed as I have grown, I find that one thought on suicide stays the same.... how desperate must a person be to take their own life. It is human nature to save our own lives at all costs, so to get to a point in which one ends it seems like they must have reached the furthest depths of desperation, and as such, see suicide as the only solution.

I know this is a touchy subject in religions as well. Many believe that those who commit suicide will be condemned to hell. I have different feelings. Although I do feel like suicide is a sin (thou shalt not kill), I feel like God is a just God and that he will take all things, including the mental state and health of the person, into consideration when deciding what that person's fate will be.

Author Thinks All Homework Should Be Abolished - Blog Entry

06 Feb 2007 08:10 PM

Generally, I am anti-homework, however, I can see it's benefits at times. For instance, my son struggles with math in school, I have found that when he brings his homework home, the one on one time he gets with me showing him how to do it, helps him a great deal. He can't keep up with the pace in the classroom, he has to have that extra instruction from me for him to understand the concepts (I always teach them different than the teacher, I teach the way I remember learning, I don't know why they have changed). My oldest has very little homework a day and she finishes it quite quickly. I do think that reading should be done at home, but for the most part, children (and teenagers) should be given time at school to finish assignments and only if they don't get it done, should they have to bring it home.

Tithing: Does God Really Expect Me to Give Ten Percent? - Blog Entry

06 Feb 2007 12:54 PM

I definately believe that tithing is a commandment and I pay it faithfully. To me, it is a matter of obedience. Everyone can argue their way out of just about everything, and many do when it comes to tithing, but for me, there is nothing to debate, it is a commandment... period.

Non-Frugal Light Bulbs May Soon Be Illegal - Blog Entry

31 Jan 2007 11:58 AM

As far as I know you can't use the low-energy bulbs on dimming lights.

I think this law is really stupid. I understand the need for people to try to conserve energy, and I am slowly changing out most of the lights in my house to these types of light bulbs, but do we really want the government involved in telling us how we can and can not light our own homes? It just seems silly. Aren't there more important things on the agenda then banning a certain kind of light bulb.... it just seems like they are thinking up ways to pass more laws.
