Primary Time: Wellness Etiqette and Nursery - Blog Entry

Yes, I think everyone in my ward thinks my husband went inactive these past few months because my daughter (she just turned 2 last week) had a cold, would get better for a day, then have another one, for two months straight. I got really sick of it, but I am not so sure he minded... :) Yes, it is important to keep your little ones home if they are sick, I agree.

Birthday Parties- Are Some Parents Going Too Far? - Blog Entry

16 Jan 2007 11:11 AM

I completely agree! I was watching a show where parents can have sleep over parties at FAO Schwarz.... it cost something like $17,000 for the night.... it was a long time ago when I saw it but holy cow! The birthday party should be about the birthday kid, not about the parents image. And when a parent worries about every detail for a 5 year olds party, that is exactly what they are worried about because 5 year olds could care less. Now the goody bags, hehe, I like to do those, but they are not elaborate ones.

What about a Father's "Right to Choose"? - Blog Entry

I have known 2 men that this has happened to. It was very difficult for both. Both were very excited to be fathers and looking forward to the opportunity. Both were devastated by the news. It is a real double standard isn't it. Thanks for bringing it up.

Parents- Control Your Kids' Behavior In School Or You May Have To Pay A Fine - Blog Entry

16 Jan 2007 10:05 AM

I think it is HORRIBLE! Holy cow. It is one thing to hold the parents responsible if the parent is taking the child out of class for work reasons, okay I get that one.... but seriously. Let me explain my stand point.... my parents had 11 children and I kid you not when I say that they were the best parents ever. They attended all sporting activities, read to us, told us stories, spent one on one time with us, my dad took my brothers camping and fishing, my mom and my sisters would spend those days together, they taught us, they counseled with us, they loved us more than many of the parents I see today. I used to skip school all of the time my freshman year of high school. If my parents had to pay a fine or be arrested because of MY CHOICES, it would have disasterous for our family. My mother was a stay at home mom, my father worked very hard, to take time away from work or to take money from his pocket would have been detrimental to our families financial stability. We were poor, we couldn't afford that. My father was a great advocate for me that year. He met with the school often, had me evaluated by a doctor who diagnosed me with depression, somehow paid for the $100 per month perscription so that I might get better. He allowed the natural consequeses of the school to take place, ie Saturday School, lunch room detention, etc. I learned my lesson. Parents can give it there very best but that isn't going to change the fact that kids still have their agency once they leave the house. And not all kids are going to be angels all through school, many will make mistakes. That doesn't make them bad kids and it doesn't make the parents bad parents, often there is an underlying factor that has to be considered. It isn't as black and white as many of you make it out to be.

Is Buying in Bulk Bad for Your Budget? - Blog Entry

An oxygen packet is something that you can put into your food storage to obsorb oxygen so it stays good longer.... My church has a really fantastic website of food storage. Although it is sponsered by the LDS church, it has information that would be great for anyone, including interactive food calculators to calculate how much food you would need to store for your family, what stores the best and longest, ways to store and a ton of other stuff on self reliance. You can find it here if you are interested. http://www.providentliving.org/channel/0,11677,1706-1,00.html

Mary - I just started this whole food storage thing not too long ago and so for now, I am just stacking it. I plan on doing what my mom is doing when I have the time and money. She buys food grade 5 gallon buckets and fills them with flour, rice, and beans. The place she buys them from also sells oxygen packets to put in with them. One of these days..... :)
