LazyTown - Blog Entry

My kids love this show! It is one of their favorites. It is a little fruity (with the hair) and a little over dramatic with the acting (intentionally), but I think that is what draws my kids into it. We don't watch it much durring the school year, because my kids are all in school, but it is definately a favorite in my house, and it sends such a good message that I am alright with that.

Why I Refused To Have An Amniocentesis - Blog Entry

01 Sep 2006 10:31 AM

I think you were wise not getting an amnio with what was given you. It certainly sounds like you were going to be prepared regardless of the results. However, amnios do help save pregnancies in other problems. For instance, my sister has A- blood and the rogam (sp?) shot does nothing to aid in her pregnancies. So she had to get an amnio every other week to check and see if her antibodies were trying to kill off the baby. It was crucial for the well being of her child. Once the amnios started showing the rejection, her doctors were able to give the baby blood transfusions in the womb to prevent her body from rejecting the entire pregnancy. I just thought I would point out that although most mothers who are offered amnios, it is a choice, sometimes they are a necessity and a medical miracle when you think of the many babies lives who were saved (my sister's 3 and however many more in her or other life threatening situations).

Homosexual Agenda Being Promoted In Schools - Blog Entry

Valorie and Misty! Thank you! Seriously, why do we need to teach our elementary school children about sexuality at all? We shouldn't, that is a parents role.

Homosexual Agenda Being Promoted In Schools - Blog Entry

First, I have to agree with Theresa. I don't have much to add except that this is a slippery slope. Whats next? I have read a few articles about polygamist families hoping that the gay marriage amendment passes eventually because that would take their case for making polygamy legal one step closer to reality. (If Jack can have two daddies, then why can't Mary have two mommies and a daddy.)

I don't understand why we have to promote "tolerance" at all. I teach my children that they are to treat EVERYONE (no exceptions) with kindness and respect. The old school GOLDEN RULE.

"Are You Kidding Me?" The eBay Item That Made My Head Ache - Blog Entry

I did just check the listing again, and it is interesting, if you click on the number 33 (number of bids) all but the last is by the same person. Starting at $1.25. It does seem suspicious that one person would bid themselves up 32 times from $1.25 to $450.00. Things that make you go hmmmm.....

Does Violence In Video Games Affect Children? - Blog Entry

28 Aug 2006 12:59 PM

I am SO glad you did a blog on this. A year or two ago, I was reading a parents type magazine (I actually think it was Parents, or Child, I don't remember) anyways, it was one of the areas in which parents write in questions and then experts answer them. One mother was concerned because her 12 year old son was downloading hard core rap off of the internet. Stuff he couldn't buy in stores. She talked about how violent the music was and asked what should she do and the doctor or psychologist or whoever answered basically said that kids will be kids and media has no effect on children's behavior. I was like WHAT?! Thanks for stating the truth about these violent games and their desensitization of todays kids.

Are Teachers Over Paid? - Blog Entry

25 Aug 2006 04:21 PM

I wish teachers were paid more. Teachers are right up there with doctors for me, men and women who save peoples lives. There is no replacement for teachers. Our entire society is built on having a good education. Teachers certainly should get paid more, because of the importance of the job. I always wondered growing up, why professional athletes got paid so much more than teachers. I know the answer now, but it seems ridiculous to be pissed off that teachers "make too much" when others get paid stupid money for NOT adding something valuable to our society. Teachers are priceless and if they were paid a better wage, I would imagine we would get quite a few more candidates who really wanted to be there. I have known people who have really wanted to teach, but have chosen another career path because the wages were too low to support a family on. And it is a shame because we are missing out on some amazing people.

Physical Bullying in Schools - Blog Entry

14 Aug 2006 09:56 AM

I have to say that I disagree with not fighting back. I will never tell my child that they can not defend themselves. It is a right that we have. My child will never be in trouble at home if he fights in defense of himself/herself, even if he/she gets suspended from school. Now, if my child starts the fight, that is a whole other story.

Let me tell you one of the biggest reasons I feel this way. When my husband was in elementry school (I don't remember the exact grade, I think it was 2nd or 3rd) he moved to a new state. He started a new school and was sat in front of a large boy who bullied him constantly for the first week. This boy slapped him in the face and stole his pencils and broke them among other things. He was unable to concentrate. He tried bringing it to the teachers attention and it was dismissed. One day he went home and his father found out. His father told him that he was to go to school and defend himself. The next day the bully started in on him again and my husband fought back. Yes, he was sent to the principles office, yes his father was called, yes, his father defended his postion and said "my son comes here to learn, he is unable to do so with this kid picking on him all day, your damn right I told him to fight back, and I would do it again."

Guess what, my husband was not picked on for the rest of the year.....

Hollywood Star Accused of Driving Drunk - Blog Entry

01 Aug 2006 07:03 PM

Well, I still love him. Yes, he said some horrible things, yes, he was driving drunk which I find so completely irresponsible and stupid... and yes, he is human and in reading his statement he put out today, shows great remorse for his actions. Which for me, goes a long way. I think that people like Barbara Walters love to hate people. I find her dispicable personally, but whatever.... Bottom line is that I think everyone in this world has had to have forgiveness at one point in time or another. Why not give it to those who are really seeking it.
