Don’t let your family getaway go undocumented this spring. If you are planning to escape to the sun, sand and surf, be sure to take plenty of pictures, collect a bunch of mementos, and then create eye-popping scrapbook layouts to preserve all of the good times.
Beach-themed page designs are fun to make. Use the opportunity to flex your creative muscle by incorporating items you collect during your vacation with the myriad of scrapbooking embellishments available in stores and online. For example, consider bringing home a small container or Ziploc bag of sand from the beach and adding it to a layout to recreate a beach scene. Simply place a liberal amount of clear adhesive to the page and sprinkle the sand on top, just as you would glitter. You could also sketch palm trees on the page with chalk, and then outline the leaves with flocking powder to make them pop. Finally, add coconuts to the trees with brown craft foam for added dimension.
Whether your beach trip takes you to Hawaii, Mexico, the Caribbean or Florida, you can capture the beauty of the area with a few simple scrapbooking techniques. Start by making waves for a page design with blue cardstock. Use decorative scissors to cut the wave shapes, and then layer the strips of paper together before adhering them to a patterned paper background. Another simple touch is crafting a beach ball. This can be made with a paper punch. Just punch a circle from patterned paper, add the lines of the ball with a fine tipped black pen, and then shade in details with some chalk.
Don’t forget to include plenty of embellishments when crafting a beach-themed layout. Some simple ideas include gluing flat shells, river rock or colored glass pieces to the bottom or sides of your page to create a one-of-a-kind border. If you don’t have enough for an entire page border, make a small photo frame instead. Another affordable option is to print out free online clip art of sunglasses, swimsuits, hammocks, lifeguard stands and sand toys. You can spice up the printables by adding a bit of glitter, a few sequins or some flocking powder to give them texture.
