07 Sep 2006 04:16 PM Cleaning Can Be Hazardous to Your Health If you don't want your obituary to read "Died While Cleaning House," keep these cautions in mind as you scrub.
- Check the label of any cleanser you use. If it contains the word caustic, the substance can burn your skin. Be sure to wear rubber gloves when handling such substance.
- When using harsh cleaners, make sure your work area is well-ventilated and avoid gas or flames of any kind.
- Be sure to store that indispensable supply of vinegar in glass containers only. When vinegar comes in contact with lead or copper, it can create a deadly poison.
- Never mix chlorine bleach with toilet bowl cleaners or ammonia. When combined, these chemicals can create chlorine gas-a potentially lethal substance.
- One you are through using cleaners, be sure to seal the containers tight and store them in a well-vantilated space. Make sure the space you choose is well out of reach of children.
