27 Aug 2006 05:34 PM Dishwashers: Apply a soda solution
These are just some ways to use baking soda to make you dishwasher work at it's best! If you have to clean a particularly greasy batch of dishes, don't use extra detergent. Too many suds can actually clog up the dishwasher, making it less able to clean your dishes. Instead, sprinkle 1/2 cup baking soda on the bottom of the dishwasher before you run it. The soda will cut the grease in the first wash cycle, allowing your detergent to work more efficiently. Baking soda is also great tool for deodorizing your dishwasher. When that's your goal, add 1 cup soda to the dishwasher when it's empty. Run the machine through the rinse cycle, then shut it off. Once it has dried, it should smell fresh.
