02 Nov 2006 07:07 AM Getting kids to eat foods that are new and different.
Do you have a problem with your kids not wanting to eat anything new or different, i do. I have found that when the kids help you make the food that they are gonna eat they are more likely to eat it themselves. My kids do not want to eat Bar-B-Q chicken, so one night i decided to let my kids help me make it. I let them pour the Bar-B-Q sauce on top and that when we sat down to eat dinner they wanted to try it. I don't really know why it makes a different. I guess it is because they helped make it so they feel like they cooked it and they want to eat what they cooked. I was makeing some sweet and sour chicken and i let my kids dip the chicken in the batter and when dinner time came around, i have never seen my son eat so much chicken in my life. Usually he is up from the table before any of the rest of us are done, but this time we were done and he was still wanting more. I have also found that the more different the food looks the more they want to try it. My husband brought home this new kind of food. It looked like a ball or bread and it had chicken in the middle. My daugher looked at it and she wanted to eat it before i warmed it up i guess she thought there was a suprise in the middle for her. She ate the whole thing and she loved it. I have also found that if you cook a dessert and you let them put sprinkles on top or some kind of decoration they are more likley to eat it because it looks like they want it to look and they helped decorate it. My son will not eat anything unless it is mac and cheese or corn. One night i got a paper plate and i let them decorated the plate with a permant marker and then i let it dry and wash the plate. When dinner time came they wanted to put their food on the desgines that they had drew and they ate everything on their plate so that they could see what they drew.
