25 Sep 2006 12:35 PM Give Teddy A Beanbag ChairYou can make a beanbag chair for a beloved stuffed animal by starting with an empty mesh bag, say from a five-pound bag of onions. Measure the onion bag, then cut a piece of old sheet so it's the same width as the mesh plus an additional 1 1/4 inches. The length should be twice that of the mesh, plus an additional 1 1/4 inches to allow for a seam on each end. (Your objective is to make an outer bag that will slip over the mesh.) Fold the fabric in half (B) so it will fit over the mesh. Now stitch a 5/8-inch seam on each of the long sides. Place the mesh bag inside the fabric pouch. Grasp about four inches of the closed bottom, where the fold is, and secure the bunched fabric tightly with several heavy rubber bands. Turn the bags mesh side out, with the rubber bands inside. The mesh bag will make the outside look like the same durable upholstry used for beanbag chairs. The fabric, of course, will keep the stuffing from falling out. Fill with about 8 inches' worth of dired pinto beans or Styrofoam packing peanuts. Poke any leftover material and the mesh bag toward then inside, then hand-stitch the opening closed. The seam will become the underside of the beanbag chair. No comments on this article yet. Be the first to comment! Community Tags kids crafts Discuss this article
