I was reading a book and saw this idea and i thought that it would really be a good idea for a kids birhtday party! "Fishing" for treasure never seems to lose its allure for the five and under set, and it's a great wat to give out party favors--without putting up more money for store-bpught trappings. Collect and assortment of brooms, pool cues, golf clubs, and dry sticks between 18 and 24 inches long. Tie an 6- or 9-foot length of string to each. use wire cutters to cut off the hooks from a batch fo wire coat hangers and tie one hook to the end of each sting. Turn a wooden picnic table on it's side and set up the treasures so that they're hidden from view behind the overturned table. Insturct each young "fisherman" to stand on teh other side with the "fishing rod" and cast the string and hook over the table, where an adult is hidden. The adult will tie a prize on the hook--maybe a small flashlight, candy bar, ro memo pad--and the child will pull up th prize. Always let just on tyke take her turn at a time.
