Sweet & Sour Chicken

This is a wonderful Asian or Chinese dish.  This taste just like the one that you get when you go out to a chinese restarant.  It is hard to get my kids to eat anything but they really love this.  They like the chicken with or without the sauce.

Chicken: 1lb chicken breast, cut into 1-inch pieces, 1 cup all-purpose flour, 1/2 cup cornstarch, 2 teaspoon salt, 1 teaspoon baking powder, 1 cup water, 2 teaspoon vegetable oil, and 1/2 teaspoon MSG (optional)

In a small bowl, beat flour, cornstarch, salt, msg, baking powder, water, and 2 teapoon oil with electric mixer or whisk until smooth.  Dip meat into batter with thongs; fry in hot oil turning once, unil golden brown. Drain and keep warm.  Pour oil into a deep frying pan to a depth of 1-1.5 inches.  Heat to 375 degrees, or unitl a 1-inch bread cube browns in 1 min. ( a deep fryer also works well). While oil heats, prepare sweet and sour sauce.

Sauce:  11/2 tablespoon corstarch,1/2 cup water, 1/3 cup rice vinegar, 2/3 cup sugar, 1 tablespoon say sauce and 1/4 teapsoon red food coloring (optional)

Dissolve the cornstarch in 1/2 cup water. Add remaing of ingredients stir. Heat in small pan over medium high heat unitl sauce boils and thickens.

*The red food coloring is just to turn the sauce red, so if you want to make the dish look pretty you can use the food coloring, or if you want to change it you can use some other color.*
