15 Feb 2009 12:25 PM Nature vs. Nurture? As we all know, a child's development is neither entirely based on genetics or on environmental surroundings and circumstances. Studies that have been conducted on identical twins have confirmed this because when raised in different environments, each twin will have several similar personality characteristics (as a result of genetics), but each will also have several characteristics that distinguish them from the other (as a result of their experiences). I firmly believe that personality and character development is a pretty even mix of the two. Consider being placed in a stressful situation, your genetics will play a large role on the level of emotion (positive or negative) that is introduced to the situation. However, if you have previously been in a similar situation, your experiences from that situation will also have a great impact on how you handle the current circumstances. Therefore, both genetics and environmental experiences impact one's current decisions and characteristics. Do you think that development is genetic or experientially based?
