15 Feb 2009 12:36 PM Object PermanenceHave you ever heard the saying "Out of Sight, Out of Mind"? For young children, this is more than a mere saying. According to Jean Piaget, before the age of about 8 months, children are unable to comprehend that an object or person are still in existence when they can no longer be seen, heard, etc. This concept is referred to as object permanence. When did you notice that your child first "developed" the ability to recognize the existence of an object when she/he was no longer able to physically sense it? No comments on this article yet.
