Stranger Wariness

As we all know, babies all have very distinct personalities and temperaments. However, have you noticed that regardless of how shy or outgoing a child is, they will still reach a point when they are hesitant to interact with strangers? Once they reach about a year old, they are very wary about approaching or interacting with someone other than a very close caregiver. Have you ever had a problem with this (esp. when bringing your child to day care)? This typically occurs around one year. If you noticed this, at what age did your child exhibit this? Was your child previously shy, or were they out going?
