Food Network - Do You Watch? - Blog Entry

We homeschool and The Food Network is a staple around here! It gives the kids some cooking ideas that don't come from mom, and gives me inspirational ieas to try new things. We LOVE the educational aspects of The Alton Brown (and met him on one occassion). I have to say though, I'm not a big fan of Emeril...Sorry!!!

Make your own Granola Bars - Blog Entry

Here's what I add to make it yummy and a little 'zippier': Lemon or Orange Zest (easy to make on your own, or dig through the back of your spice cupboard), dried cranberries (Craisins are at your wholesale club for around $6 for a HUGE bag that NEVER goes bad), and almonds (either splurge and buy now or stock up over the baking season when they are on sale). If you REALLY want to jazz it up, add a can of orange juice concentrate in place of brown sugar, mix, and bake as directed. It's De-Lish! Enjoy! ~Sarah

What Is A Pantry Challenge? - Blog Entry

We *just* did this, although I didn't realize it had a name! I'm always up for a challenge, so now that I know it's an art form I'm even more motivated to get us through another day without hitting the stores. Here's some ideas we came up with: Mayo Biscuits (I'm out of shortening) made with 1 cup flour, about 6 Tbsp Mayo, a pinch of salt, a shake of sugar, a tsp or so of baking powder and enough milk to bring it together. I added garlic and oregano so they'd go better with our 'italian' themed pantry scramble last night :) Let's see, we have rice, cream o' stuff soups, I'm sure I've got chicken in the depths of my freezer somewhere, and some deer meat. Oh. And LOADS of green beans frozen from the garden. TONS of green beans. Time to get creative! Thanks for the inspirational ideas...keep it coming! ~Sarah
