Dealing with a Narcissistic Mother - Blog Entry

12 Jul 2009 06:03 PM

Hi Alex, It's unlikely that your mother will change and although she does display some narcissistic tendencies it is also possible that she has another personality disorder instead. These people are very child- like and have not matured properly, often due to problems in their own childhood and hence are capable of these elaborate round-about requests for normal help that are always couched in drama and self pity. You can contact me at http://youronlinecounselor.com if you think you would benefit from additional help but it is important to shield your son form these antics, although her effect on him will be considerably less than what you suffered yourself. Best wishes, Beth

Born-Again Christians a Potential Threat to Mental Health Sufferers (1) - Blog Entry

Hi Larry, what an awful experience for you. Thank ou for contributing your story -- it demonstrates the arrogance of which I was speaking and the lack of respect. I'm not against prayer at all, just the inconsideration of some people in the name of God. My understanding is that God does not thrust himself on anyone, if only his followers would take note. I hope your wife recovered from her ordeal. Best wishes, Beth

Hi Blithe, it's great that you have gained insight into your ex's behaviour and realized the pattern that is going on, or rather, was going on. Although this condition is not common, you will gain the skills to recognize the disorder in others in the future. Good luck! Beth

Hi Blithe, I'm sorry you have had such an unpleasant experience with this man who you obviously still care for in many ways. I really can't make an assessment of whether he has a personality disorder or not based on your posting. I would need to systematically examine many of his behaviors and beliefs. This would entail you taking out one or more sessions. If you choose to do this you are more than welcome to contact me at http://youronlinecounselor.com

Best wishes, Beth

Suicide: Why Do the Neighbors Talk but do Nothing? - Blog Entry

I will be writing further articles on this topic as I think it is important to support the mentally ill, perhaps even more so than the physically ill who have so called "real illnesses". Keep up the great work!

Should You Confront a Narcissist about their Narcissism? - Blog Entry

28 Jun 2009 11:16 PM

Hi JT Mur, try to keep the issue between you and your sister and remind others that it is between you and your sister. Try your best to refuse to be drawn into conversation with others and use the broken record technique to achieve this. Most of all, do what your heart tells you in how you deal with your sister. Best wishes, Beth
