You Know You’re a Mom When…

2008 Under Soapbox Mama This morning I laid flat on the floor with my two kids trying to wake up. It was early and my brain had not cleared the fogginess of sleep. Both of them had been up for awhile and like all children, their exuberance had kicked in the moment they opened their eyes.

Where are the limits to…?

I recently read an article about a 10 year old boy who is a bull fighting prodigy. He is from Mexico and is currently traveling in France partaking in non-professional demonstrations in bullfighting schools. In France, the approved age for bull fighters is sixteen.

Remember the love

This weekend I attended a beautiful Greek wedding. It was a very ceremonial event lasting over an hour and filled with tradition and symbolism. At one point in the ceremony, the priest spoke about the roles of both the husband and wife.

How Well Do You Know Your Neighbors?

This summer our aging next door neighbors had their two grand daughters come and stay for over two months. The oldest girl was the same age as my son, so by the end of their first day, a new friendship was quickly budding. As with most people who live in populated neighborhoods, most activities that occurred in our yard, they’re privy to them.

Warding off the Mommy Blues

After my first child, a handful of people asked me if I was feeling any Baby Blues. Thankfully, I was able to escape the hormonal imbalance that often affects new moms and merrily went about my new role of mother with zest and vigor. I quickly immersed myself into all things baby. As my son grew, my world consisted of classes, play dates and, of course, daily trips to the playground.

Why Not Pink?

The recent warm weather and burst of spring showers had prompted my son into a desire for puddle jumping. Of course, the rubber boots he donned last year were far from fitting onto his now three-year-old toes, so off to the store we went to get a new pair. Not thinking and trying to multi-task, Dad came along and so did little sister.
