3 Cheap and Easy Decorating Ideas

Do you wish you could decorate a bit more, but for a lot less? You can and it is actually really easy. There are dozens of small touches you can add around your home to add a bit of style and personality, for either no money or hardly any. Here are just a few ideas I have implemented in my home, or seen in my friends’ homes.

Seashell Candle holders – Seashells are inexpensive, often you already have some lying around. In addition, you can also use cleaned and disinfected mussel shells or clam shells. Purchase some tealights or votive candles from the dollar store and group them together for a very pretty look. You could also sprinkle some smaller loose seashells around the cluster.

Wood Palette Coffee Table – Usually free, you can often request them from warehouse type stores. Most of the time if you haul one away, they’ll let you have it. But I recommend two, stacked for a little extra height. You can either leave them as is for natural look, or paint them to match. If the slats are too wide, pick up a cheap piece of plywood, cut it to size and nail to the top. You can use wood crates for end tables for a uniformed look.

Tissue Paper Table Cover – I loved this idea so much when I saw it, that I knew just which piece of furniture I was going to do it to. I have an old wood dresser that I use in an entry hall. The top is scratched and I really just don’t feel like fixing it. It gives it character right? I just put vases on top and prayed it wasn’t noticeable. However, with our house on the market, it was important for our furniture to look great, so I tried this. I found some very pretty tissue paper at a party supply store. It matched my décor and really did look great. I basically used water based acrylic varnish to varnish the tissue paper to the top, and now I have a beautiful dresser top that is not only eye pleasing, fixed the problem with hiding scratches too.
