3 Fantastic Kitchen Tips

Often I am asked for tips in the kitchen, and seeing that it is one of my favorite rooms in the house (other than my scrap room), I love to share tips for saving money in the kitchen. While I have dozens of other tips that might not save money but would be fun to do, these do save money.

1. Cookbooks

Save your money and do not purchase these wallet drainers. Most cookbooks are beautiful, colorful and filled with delectable recipes. Except for our family, we don’t make even half of the recipes in the book. It is much easier to just type in ‘recipes’ or ‘casserole recipes’ or whatever you are looking for in a search engine and find recipes for free online.

2. Timers

Set them. Use a microwave timer or oven timer to time your foods so that you don’t forget to remove them from the oven or stove. We all think we will remember to remove the dish in 15 minutes, but 20 minutes comes and goes and you might remember and it is too late. Nothing worse than a burnt dinner which can add up to additional costs if you have to create something new.

3. Bottled Water

Avoid buying water in bottles. This is totally not cost effective, and a huge monthly money drainer. Even if you drink lots and lots of water and little else, it would be more cost effective to purchase gallon jugs of distilled water and fill up a purchased water bottle so you can tote it with you. Don’t bother purchasing “Spring Water” because it is just water that came from a well, and isn’t any better than what comes out of the tap.
