Have the shopping bug? Try one of these tips.
Whether you are a mall rat or a thrift store diva, you may be bit by the shopping bug. The shopping bug gives you an urge to go shopping and bring home something. The shopping bug does not want you to leave that store empty handed. That is because it gets a nice little kick back from the debt bug. One surely leads to the other. If you want to squash that old shopping bug where it crawls, then you’ll need your own form of pesticide.
Bring the kids
As a mom of three young children, I know that it is nearly impossible to enjoy shopping with all of the kids along. From acrobatics on the shopping cart to wining about Pokemon cards, distraction quickly takes over and I just want to leave the cart in the middle of the aisle and get out of the store as soon as possible.
Visit the library
Libraries are magical places. You can acquire new things to your heart’s content and never have to pay for them (as long as you return them on time). Take an hour to read through the latest magazines, before loading up a bag full of books, music CDs, MP3 units, movies and video games that can be all yours for three weeks (or six if you renew them). If you must have money change hands, bring along a dollar and purchase two paperback books from the library sale.
Start decluttering
Decluttering serves two purposes here in squashing that shopping bug. The first is that it makes you realize how much you already have and how many things that you bought but never actually got around to using. The second is that in decluttering, you may find a few new treasures that you forgot about. That is like acquiring something new, even though you didn’t have to spend a cent.
